This February, I had the great fortune to drive to downtown Atlanta
Georgia to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens for their Feb 7-April 12th
orchid program called “Orchid Daze:Pop!“ The orchid display billed as the largest
orchid center in the US, held in the Fuqua Orchid Center was amid dramatic pop
art exhibits as well across the center!
The Fuqua,
a stand-alone series of indoor display buildings mimics specific orchid habitats
for those specific to that climate.
Although orchids can be found in all continents except Antarctica, they
are most abundant in rain forest type places as found South America and Southeast
Asia. The Fuqua Orchid Center showcases the Atlanta Botanical Garden's large
and diverse collection of orchids. Orchids are exhibited year round in
the 16,000 sq. ft. display space, consisting of landscaped areas and
seasonal displays.

The major types of orchids
immediately recognizable are there on display to thrill you, as are the 'special' less recognizable displays, all accompanied with detailed documentation. And readily available on hand is an Orchardist ready to discuss
and educate on plants and their specifics as well as detailing the nuances of the Fuqua site itself.
The Orchid Daze:Pop! extravaganza continues through mid-April but even afterwards, a special trip to the Botanical
Gardens and the Orchid Center will be a very rewarding
experience!
